artworks by LK

Today I received a message on my IFB account from Lena Ker. For those of you (like myself earlier) who have not heard of her you will be pleasantly surprised to come across her blog of fashion illustrations. I am yet to find out where she is from but have been so taken from her illustrations that they've inspired be to design my business cards around her images (if she's willing of course!)

To visit Lena's blog "Artwork by LK" click HERE and be sure to follow her!

Enjoy!

Designer basics under $100 - and how to wear them!

At the moment I'm stocking up on my basics because they're the first pieces in my wardrobe to get the most wear and unfortunately, feel the most tear. In my opinion it is perfectly suitable for all wardrobes to carry 4-5 basic colors: white, nude, grey, navy and black. The 4 styles to own: camisoles, tanks, short sleeve t-shirts, long sleeve t-shirts.

Basics range in price depending where you shop for them, from $5 - $250+. You most likely think to yourself "well they're worn underneath my clothing so it doesn't really matter if the quality is the best!" or "I can wear any tank under another tank!"... WRONG!!! Quality and style do matter.

Let's say you're wearing a beautiful sheer silk tank. Wearing a cotton racer back may allow the tank to cling to the cotton taking away from the flow of the top with the racer back showing when you turn around, and it will take away from the delicate look.

Wearing another silk tank underneath with regular (sometimes adjustable straps) keeps the flow of the top silk tank and keeps the luxurious look.

Here is a list of designer basics all under $100, enjoy!

Splendid Cotton camisole top $45
Vanessa Bruno Fine-knit cotton camisole $70
J.Crew Cotton-blend racer-back tank $30
Splendid Ribbed cotton tank $44
J.Crew Cotton-blend racer-back tank $30

Camis and Tanks are worn best underneath sweaters or sheer tops, mainly as layering pieces.

T by Alexander Wang Classic long-sleeved jersey T-shirt $81
James Perse Loose-fit long-sleeve T-shirt $55
T by Alexander Wang Classic long-sleeved jersey T-shirt $81
T by Alexander Wang Classic long-sleeved jersey T-shirt $81

Loose fitting t-shirts give a cool casual look when worn with skinny jeans and flats and your fiercest pair of Ray-Bans.

T by Alexander Wang Classic jersey T-shirt $76
James Perse Loose-fit short-sleeve T-shirt $50
James Perse Loose-fit short-sleeve T-shirt $50

The long sleeve t-shirt is one of my favorites for tucking into pants and topped with a leather jacket, accessorized with a black skinny belt and you're good to go!

If it wasn't for Eric's mom and dad I wouldn't have these lovely beaded bracelets! They picked them up for me from a bead artisan on a week long trip to Mexico. The photos don't do justice to how sparkley they can really get especially when the light hits them in the right way. I'm excited to jazz them up with some more gold bangles or even some DIY pieces!

Closet Makeover: Best friend edition

How many of you clean out your closets on a regular basis? Do you have items from the 80's and 90's and clothes you bought 2 years ago with the tags still attached?! I for one, clean it every month to every second month. I can tell you exactly what I have, in order of color and style and there is nothing with the tags still attached!

My bestie Lyndsey asked me to clean out her closet for her and what I thought I was in for wasn't even close. Lyndsey is an avid shopper, you would think she does it for a living and she is the best eBay expert I know. By far, she own(ed) the most clothing I have ever seen in one closet. We found the best gems in her closet too - an Eco Red tube top, a furry pink Kangol hat and a Spice Girls lollipop tin can! It was a long 4 hour process but we did it...

To start, we set up 3 bags to keep organized: 1)Donate / Throw away 2)Sell 3)Alter / Dryclean

BEFORE

AFTER

Everything was organized perfectly for her to put together a fall outfit! All items were easily accessible and there was still tons of space for her to add as many more items as she likes (shopping trip!) also, if you decide to re-do your friend's closet...be prepared for some screaming matches over "their favorite top!".

Snipits of my life: Part 6 - My Shoes

I have 45 pairs of shoes. This after a very large cleanse of my shoe closet where I realized I should not be keeping every pair of shoes I've ever purchased...it was getting a little too "Hoarders Special". Now I have my favorites and the shoes that I wear the most often, let's get to it!

My Heels | I'm that girl in the grocery store that's wearing 5 inch pumps with leather pants and a sequin shirt, you know you've seen them. I wear my heels with almost every outfit becaues they definetly elevate the look and feel more feminen. I can only last in heels for up to 12 hours or so.

My Booties | I just recently started collecting booties this year and I'm hooked, I just need some neutral colors and I'll be good for every outfit.

My Boots | These are shoes that I do NOT wear often. My reasoning, I know.. is very lame but I can't help how I feel! I'm an obsessive viewer of all of the "Real Housewives" shows and they ALL WEAR BOOTS and they all LOOK LIKE SLOOTS! So I have to be in an extra saucy mood to wear them ;).

My Flats | I tend to wear flats mainly when I'm doing my merchandising at work or after a week straight of heels, sometimes my feet need a break!

Work of Art Season 2 Premier!!!

Last summer Eric and I had the pleasure of enjoying a tv filled summer of our new favorite show "Work of Art". Luckily! The new season that we have both been anticipating is finally premiering its second season on October 12th 2011 at 9pm!

For thoes of you that havn't heard of the show, heres a quick rundown:
Produced by Sarah Jessica Parker and the producers of Project Runway and Top Chef, 14 contestants from all medias of art come together in hopes of winning a solo exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum and a cash prize of $100,000, provided by Prismacolor®. Hosting the show is China Chow who is accompanied by a pannel of judges - Bill Powers, owner of New York Gallery and a literary art contirbutor, Jerry Saltz, an art critic for New York Magazine and lastly Jeanne Greenberg who is the curartor and owner for Salon94 gallery in New York.

Much like Project Runway the contestant are provided with a mentor like Tim Gunn, however this role is filled by art auctioneer Simon de Pury.

Each week the contestants are pushed to the edge to create unique pieces based on their specialties ranging from painting, sculpture, photography, collage, and industrial design. Now ofcourse there's a twist to the challenges, sometimes these challenges could be based on an idea that allows the artist to go beyond their regular work and branch out to a medium they are not familliar with.

I CANT WAIT!!

BREAKING NEWS:

I'm at work at the moment and recieved the news that Top Shop will be opening at the Bay Vancouver THIS SEPTEMEBER 12TH!!

Booking the day off, as we speak.

*YIPPEEEEE!!!*

new fall finds

Fall is officially 14 days away from today and you know what that means...

FUR, SPARKLE, CHUNKY KNITS, AND BIG SAAALLLESS!!! For anyone that works retail (me) you'll understand that it's a blessing and a curse. A blessing obviously because of the discount and your entire wardrobe becomes your favorite pieces. A curse because your broke. BUT YOU LOOK DAMN GOOD!

I put myself on a budget for the September collection we received at Club - I had to, everything screamed my name! Also, I knew that if I spent too much at my own store then I wouldn't be able to purchase anything else from another store. *womp womp womp*...

Luckily, the end of the summer season means great sales and every store has those "transition pieces" that they received a month ago that are great for fall - and on sale!

Just wait peeps, the collections out there this year are going to be stupendous so don't buy everything you see right now.

Snipits of my life: Part 5 - My Library

My Reading| I have never been a big reader of very in dept novels but I have always been interested in books that allowed me to further indulge in what I love. I have what I think is a small collection of industry books although to my friends it definetly is not, but my hopes is to one day own wall to wall shelves completely filled with fashion and design books.

*Prized Posession: Limited Edition "Louis Vuitton Art, Fashion & Architecture" in plexi casing.

My Decor| Besides having my books in one place I like to keep them with great finds from vintage shops and little trinkiets that are just as captivating as the books themselves.

The woman, originally painted black was found at Value Village in Vancouver and to me resembles a Valentino sketch.

A crystal doorknob which will be installed to my bedroom door in my first New York apartment is currently used as a book weight.

Photos of Eric and I are not overwhelmingly placed all over the apartment but just next to our trinkets and books.
